37407 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: What advice, if any, has the Minister received on the reversal of the oil and gas exploration ban, or the proposed amendments to the Crown Minerals Act, listed by date and title?

Hon Simon Watts: The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), supported by the Ministry for the Environment (MfE), prepared a climate impacts of policy assessment (CIPA) on the emissions impact associated with repealing the offshore ban on new petroleum exploration. These findings, included in the Cabinet Paper associated with this decision, indicate that the modelling is robust and reasonable, providing a clear overview of the potential emissions outcomes of the policy. No additional advice beyond the CIPA assessment has been provided to the Minister of Climate Change on this matter.
