Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: What actions will the Minister take, if any, if banks do not provide a clear proposal to him by September 2024, as he had requested, for how a voluntary reimbursement scheme for victims of authorized payment scams can be established?

Hon Andrew Bayly: As discussed in my open letter to the banking sector published on 29 February 2024, I have asked banks to investigate a voluntary reimbursement scheme for victims of authorized payment schemes. I have given them until the end of September this year to respond, and will then consider next steps.
