37367 (2024). Hon Phil Twyford to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: Did the Minister consider the option of declining to host the ASEAN Dialogue meeting that was subsequently held in Wellington on 19 April 2024 on the basis there was a likelihood an official from the Myanmar State Administration Council would attend and this would be inconsistent with New Zealand's policy of condemning and not recognising the regime, and if not why not?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: No. Hosting of the annual ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue alternates between New Zealand and our ASEAN country coordinator. This is consistent with ASEAN expectations regarding formal bilateral consultations by dialogue partners with the ASEAN group. In hosting the ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue of senior officials, New Zealand was expected to invite all ASEAN Member States to be represented.
