37366 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Health: How many staff, if any, in headcount terms did the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, have on 1 July 2025 and how many of these staff, if any, were union members?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that as at 30 June 2025, the Ministry of Health had a total headcount of 751 and Health NZ had a total headcount of 93,285. Of these, 340 Ministry of Health staff and 71,545 Health NZ staff were union members. Our Government is focused on strengthening our frontline workforce as part of our focus on putting patients first and delivering access to timely, quality healthcare - that's why, since 2023, there has been an increase of over 2,100 nurses and 600 doctors employed at Health New Zealand.
