37267 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does he agree with the Hamilton mum, quoted in the Waikato Times on 20 July 2026, that, regarding changes to toy safety standards, the Government appeared to be prioritising relatively modest savings for businesses over parents’ confidence in the products their children played with every day?
Cameron Brewer: Proposed changes are intended to maintain toy safety while reducing unnecessary regulatory differences between New Zealand and Australia. The proposed standards provide a comparable level of safety to the current requirements.
