37264 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does he agree with Consumer New Zealand that "we need our government to introduce a product safety system in Aotearoa that reflects the risks we currently face in our marketplaces"; if so, what is he doing to address consumer safety in online marketplaces like Temu?
Cameron Brewer: New Zealand's product safety framework must continue to adapt to changing consumer markets. The Government is progressing a range of product safety initiatives and reforms. Products supplied through online marketplaces are required to comply with New Zealand consumer laws and product safety requirements in the same way as products sold through physical retail channels.
