37259 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: When MBIE states that "the European and American standards provide a comparable level of safety to the Australia/New Zealand joint standard" for children's toys sold in New Zealand; what exactly is meant by "a comparable level"?
Cameron Brewer: It means the standards achieve substantially the same safety outcome in relation to the choking and airway hazards addressed by the standards. This is because the technical requirements and testing methods are largely the same.
