37258 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: When MBIE states that "the European and American standards provide a comparable level of safety to the Australia/New Zealand joint standard" for children's toys sold in New Zealand, how is "comparable level" being assessed?
Cameron Brewer: "Comparable level of safety" refers to an assessment of the requirements relating to choking and airway hazards addressed by the regulations. The technical requirements and testing methods across the European, American, and Australia/Zealand standards are largely the same.
