37204 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Further to WPQ7282(2024), beyond ensuring Totara Haumaru has the infrastructure in place to becomes operational, what is the number of procedures, if any, will these new positions facilitate?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that in the first stage, some services will move over from other buildings at North Shore Hospital which will enable specialties to be grouped together and work more efficiently. This will free up space in the main hospital which can provide flexibility over the winter peak period. I am further advised that in the second stage, there will be an increased delivery of surgical volumes, which previously would have been outsourced to private hospitals. In addition, I am also advised that some patients whose care is considered too complex to be outsourced will be able to have their surgery carried out at Tōtara Haumaru.
