37023 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many infrastructure projects, if any, did Kāinga Ora have contracted for its Large Scale Projects on 1 July 2024 and how does that breakdown by the type of infrastructure to be delivered?
Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised by Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities that infrastructure activity within the Large-Scale Projects (LSPs) is scoped and delivered as ‘work packages’. A work package (infrastructure project) varies according to each neighbourhood and stage of the masterplan, but typically includes all public infrastructure types (e.g. three waters, transport, power, telecommunications, landscaping) in addition to house removal and land remediation on Kāinga Ora landholdings. There are also contracted design-only work packages that do not include physical construction.
The number of work packages under contract at each of the following dates is listed below. The number includes projects that were already contracted in previous years but have yet to be completed.
• 1 July 2023 – 41 contracted
• 1 July 2024 – 35 contracted (including 7 new)
• 1 July 2025 – 20 contracted (including 8 new)
This is also my answer to WPQs 37024 and 37025 (2025).
