Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: Further to her reply to Question 33553 (2025), why was a reduction in the number of road cones used at road project sites not given as a measure of success for WorkSafe’s road cone hotline that allows members of the public to report excessive road cone usage?

Hon Brooke van Velden: I have received advice from WorkSafe that recording the number of road cones removed is not a straightforward exercise. However, I expect WorkSafe to refine its measures over time in order to provide certainty for the public that the road cone use they see is proportionate and appropriate to manage the risks of the specific work and work site, as a result of improved education and application of the NZTA guidance.
