36980 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: Further to her reply to Question 33553 (2025), is the perception that WorkSafe plays a useful and constructive role in issuing guidance the only measure of success she has for WorkSafe’s road cone pilot; if not, how else will she assess the success of the pilot?
Hon Brooke van Velden: As advised in my response to Written Question 33553 (2025), the main objective of the road cone pilot is for WorkSafe New Zealand to establish a digital hotline that allows members of the public to report perceived excessive road cone usage and have the sites of concern assessed against what was approved in their temporary traffic management plans. In addition to improved engagement by WorkSafe, success may be future certainty for the public that the road cone use they see is proportionate and appropriate to manage the risks of the specific work and work site, as a result of improved education and application of the NZTA guidance.
