36970 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: How has the use of road cones been reduced, if at all, as a result of NZTA’s move to work with project contractors to apply pragmatism and critical thinking to the way they use road cones?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised by NZTA that it has seen a reduction in costs between 1 July 2025 compared to previous years, despite an increase in overall spending (that is, maintenance and new projects). The 2024/25 financial year annual spend on temporary traffic management was 6.2% compared to 9.3% for the prior 3 years.
