36915 (2025). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: Did the Ministry of Social Development send out information to any organisations suggesting that sweeping floors is an activity that a person subjected to the Community Work Experience sanction could do?

Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) that a fact sheet was sent out to stakeholders to give an overview of Community Work Experience. This fact sheet included examples of suggested activities, such as: • Helping out at a local hospice • Supporting at a local church • Sorting donations at a charity shop • Assisting at an animal rescue shelter • Gardening and cleaning at a marae • Helping out at the local sports club by setting up and packing away gear. Activities will help clients to develop valuable work-related skills, build confidence and connect with others in their community. The Ministry will need to confirm both the activities suggested, and the organisation, are suitable before the client can begin their activities.
