36713 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for the Public Service: What evidence or advice, if any, did the Prime Minister request that informed his Government's decision to lift board fees?

Hon Judith Collins: The Public Service Commission completed a review of the Cabinet Fees Framework that concluded in early 2025. Advice from the Public Service Commission-led review was considered by Cabinet June 2025. That review provided clear evidence that fee ranges covered by the Framework have stagnated for more than a decade and have become significantly out of step with what is required to attract and retain top talent to our most critical boards.  This finding was reinforced in the 2024/25 Institute of Directors Fee Report, which reported a low satisfaction rate with fees for public sector board roles.
