Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Universities: Has the Minister received advice from the Tertiary Education Commission about the new Waikato Medical School; if so, did its most recent advice indicate there was an increased risk to Waikato University’s financial position if the school was approved?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: Yes, the Tertiary Education Commission has advised me as the Minister for Universities regarding the Waikato Medical School. I was advised by the TEC that Waikato has demonstrated sound financial management and that the executive is well placed to implement the required actions to respond to financial pressures if they arise.
