36690 (2025). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Economic Growth: What support, if any, has been provided to agencies covered by the All-of-Government contract to transition from reticulated gas to alternative sources of energy since 2023?
Hon Nicola Willis: In January 2025, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) collected information from agencies using the All-of-Government (AoG) reticulated gas contract to better understand their collective gas demand profile and energy transition plans for the near future.
In March 2025, MBIE approached the market with a Request for Proposal (RFP) to secure an ongoing collective gas supply arrangement to meet agencies ongoing needs for gas supply. MBIE also sought interest through the RFP from industry on partnering with Government for longer-term objectives for the energy market, including increasing energy supply through new generation and alternative fuels, such as renewable gas; and market-led innovative approaches and solutions.
Decisions about transitioning away from reticulated gas are led by the respective agencies covered by the AoG contract. Their energy needs, and the economic, technical and financial feasibility of transitioning to other fuels will be situation specific.
