36516 (2026). Lan Pham to the Minister for the Environment: Is the Minister aware that since rules preventing dairy farm intensification without a resource consent lapsed in January 2025, Canterbury Regional Council has granted effluent discharge consents allowing for some 57,000 more dairy cows in Canterbury?

Hon Nicola Grigg: I am aware of reporting of dairy expansion in Canterbury, and am also aware that there have been different estimates of the size of that expansion.
