36235 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Housing: How many Kainga Ora houses, if any, are planned to be built in Christchurch by the end of 2025?

Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advise me that it plans to deliver a further six homes in the Christchurch City Territorial Local Authority (TLA) by 31 December 2025. This follows on from 241 new social housing homes that Kāinga Ora delivered in the Christchurch City TLA from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025. There were also 1,748 CHP social housing places in Christchurch as at 31 December 2023 (i.e. start of 2024) and there were 1,887 CHP places as at the end of June 2025, an increase of 139 places. There is one CHP social housing project underway in Christchurch. The Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust (ŌCHT) has an active project for 20 places which is expected to be delivered in the last quarter of 2025. Once those 20 places are delivered before the end of the 2025 calendar year, there will have been 159 places added by CHPs in Christchurch since the start of 2024.
