36228 (2025). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Energy: what advice, if any, has he received on Biomass Combustion for energy storage or as a means of solving the dry year problem?

Hon Simon Watts: I have received advice and updates on Genesis Energy's plans to secure 300,000 tonnes of torrefied wood pellets by 2028 to power the Huntly Power Station's rankine units, including during dry years. Genesis Energy is currently in negotiations with a number of potential pellet suppliers. I have also established a Woody Bioenergy Taskforce to enable private investment into wood fuels. I expect to have more to say on the Taskforce's work in due course.
