36225 (2025). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Energy: what advice, if any, has he received on Flexible Geothermal for energy storage or as a means of solving the dry year problem?

Hon Simon Watts: I have not received advice that directly discusses the use of flexible geothermal for addressing seasonal energy risks. However, my colleague Minister Jones has just published a new draft Geothermal Strategy. Among other goals, this sets out the Government's strategic priorities to extend New Zealand's position as a world-leader in geothermal innovation and accelerate its role in providing energy resilience.
