36209 (2025). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: What funding, if any, is currently available through MSD to support education and prevention services that provide protective behaviours and body safety education to children under five, parent groups, and government agency staff?
Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) that while the Ministry’s violence prevention initiatives include Campaign for Action on Family Violence, E Tu Whanau, Pasefika Proud and the youth campaign (Love Better), these programmes do not specifically fund education and prevention services that provide protective behaviours and body safety education to children under five, parent groups, and government agency staff. A range of government agencies are responsible for delivering and funding family and sexual violence prevention initiatives. The Executive Board for the Elimination of Family Violence and Sexual Violence brings these agencies together to align whole-of-government strategy, policy and investment to eliminate family violence and sexual violence. Furthermore, the Executive Board also led work, under Action 11 of Te Aorerekura Action Plan 2021-23, for government agencies to develop and implement family violence and sexual violence capability frameworks to inform government agency staff training plans.
