36165 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Associate Minister of Housing: How many Kainga Ora homes, if any, are complying with the Healthy Homes Standards?

Hon Tama Potaka: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities was required to comply with Healthy Homes Standards by 1 July 2024, one year ahead of private property owners. At that date, 99.8 percent (67,535) of tenanted Kāinga Ora homes met the Standards. At any point in time there may be a very small number of homes undergoing maintenance work to remain compliant with the Standards. Kāinga Ora has processes in place to act quickly on this work, ensuring it is always sitting as close as possible to full compliance across its social housing portfolio. Importantly, any vacant homes are checked for compliance with the Standards prior to being let, and all new Kāinga Ora homes are designed and built to meet the Standards.
