36001 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Commerce Commission consider that existing Fair Trading Act provisions provide sufficient certainty for poultry and egg farmers during prolonged emergency biosecurity measures such as during 'flockdowns' and an Avian Influenza H5N1 incursion?
Cameron Brewer: The Commerce Commission published guidance on free range egg and poultry claims during a potential avian influenza outbreak to provide guidance to the industry in March 2025. The guidance is available on the Ministry for Primary Industries’ website. The Commission has received feedback from industry that the guidance has been helpful.
