Hon Chris Bishop: NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) advises me the speed limit on this stretch of road was 80 km/h from 23 December 2022 until 8 June 2025. There were three serious injury crashes reported during this period. NZTA has advised it does not have records of road closures in response to these crashes, though it is likely some delays were experienced by road users during these incidents. The presence of emergency services on site generally causes vehicles to slow down, and emergency services may have temporarily blocked a lane in the course of their response, without requiring the assistance of NZTA traffic management. NZ Police has the authority to close the road without requiring the assistance of NZTA traffic management resources.
