35564 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How many vacancies, if any, were advertised by the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, from January to June 2022, and how many total applicants, if any, were received for those vacancies?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that access to the recruitment system utilised prior to 2023 is no longer available. Consequently, it is unable to provide data regarding the number of vacancies advertised or the number of applications received for any period preceding that year. Fire and Emergency New Zealand I am advised that, between January and June 2022, Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fire and Emergency) had 276 non-firefighter roles that were advertised—with a total of 2,475 applicants. Fire and Emergency operates a standing recruitment process for career firefighters to cover for required operational growth and attrition. It typically runs two recruitment rounds annually for candidates who have applied through this standing recruitment process, a number of whom undergo training. Those numbers vary depending on operational requirements. New Zealand Lotteries Commission I am advised that, between January and June 2022, the New Zealand Lotteries Commission had 27 vacant roles that were advertised—with a total of 717 applicants. Office of Film and Literature Commission I am advised that, between January and June 2022, the Office of Film and Literature Classification had three vacancies that were advertised. I am further advised that it does not hold information about the number of applications as these processes were handled by an external recruitment agency.
