35406 (2026). Vanushi Walters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: How is the approach made by the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on 30 July 2026, described by that Embassy as the lodging of “solemn representations” over negative China-related remarks made in the New Zealand Parliament, classified in the Ministry’s records — as a démarche, a protest, representations, an expression of concern, or otherwise?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: MFAT does not hold a central registry of all its engagements with foreign governments which are classified in this way. The approach was referred to by officials as a phone call.
