Vanushi Walters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: Have any talking points, guidance, or instructions been issued to the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing concerning remarks made in the New Zealand Parliament on 29 July 2026; if so, on what date were they issued and by whom were they approved?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: My office, when notified by phone call that MFAT expected to received phone calls from the Chinese Government in Wellington and Beijing, instructed MFAT to be in “listening mode” – i.e. to note down what was said, report it back to my office, and provide no feedback in response.
