35386 (2025). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What progress has been made on the $802.9 million investment into the Wairarapa and Manawatū rail lines since it was announced in July 2024?

Hon Chris Bishop: My officials are working with The Greater Wellington Regional Council and Horizons Regional Council to ensure the final programme is fit for purpose, provides value for money and offers a good range of travel options for people in the Lower North Island. Work is now entering the final stages of contract negotiations for the procurement of the new trains.
