35325 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What data or research, if any, has the Minister seen indicating the level of increase in achievement to achieve Target 7 is attainable?

Hon Erica Stanford: Achieving 80% of students at curriculum level in three core areas in less than six years is aspirational, given that historical data from National Monitoring Study of Student Achievement (MNSSA) shows flat or declining achievement trajectories for reading, writing, and maths from 2012 to 2022. Achieving it will take concerted effort across the education system and wider social sector, including improving attendance which has its own Target. As key initiatives roll out, we are building a comprehensive data picture to understand what is working and to inform decisions about resourcing and intervention. This will help inform forecasting and planning as we track progress towards the Target.
