35320 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Associate Minister of Education: What evidence, if any, has the Minister seen to indicate that daily national reporting of attendance has increased the proportion of students who are present in school each day?
Hon David Seymour: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that every term since Term 1 2024, regular attendance has been higher than the same term of the previous year.
In Term 1 of 2025, 65.9 percent of students attended school regularly; an increase of 4.5 percentage points from 61.4 percent in Term 1 of 2024 and 6.9 percentage points from 59.0 percent in Term 1 of 2023.
I refer the member to the daily attendance dashboard that provides information about student attendance each day: https://www.educationcounts.govt.nz/statistics/daily-attendance-dashboard#view1
