34927 (2025). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: How many individuals are registered on the National Gang List as of 10 July 2025?

Hon Mark Mitchell: On 31 October 2017, there were 5,343 individuals on the National Gang List. On 31 December 2023, there were 9,366 - an increase of 75 per cent. There were 2,252 days between these two dates, giving an average increase of 1.8 gang members per day. As at 8 July 2025, there were 10,009 individuals on the National Gang List. This is an increase since 31 December 2023 of 7 per cent. There were 555 days between 31 December 2023 and 8 July 2025, giving an average increase of 1.2 gang members per day. The reduction in the rate of increase of the National Gang List, from 1.8 per day over 6 years to 1.2 under this Government in my view is driven by the Government's tough new anti gang laws. This, combined with our broader package to restore law and order - much of which is yet to take full effect - shows that this Government takes this seriously and is working extremely hard to combat gangs and organised crime and suppress their growth. The proof that this is working is that the rate of increase is fast on its way down after six years of a highly permissive environment. In addition, Police undertook a piece of work to improve the accuracy of the National Gang List last year as the Member knows. I acknowledge that it is highly concerning to see gang membership grow to this level. That is why the work that this Government has already done and continues to do, to suppress gang growth and make life extremely uncomfortable to be a gang member, is so important. The gang list is a dynamic dataset. To ensure stability of information, the gang list is updated monthly and run on the eighth day of each month.
