34914 (2025). Lan Pham to the Minister for Resources: Further to Reply 31466, what assertion does he not agree with, and what advice, if any, is he basing this answer off, listed by title and date?
Hon Shane Jones: I disagree with the assertion that the $200m set aside in Budget 2025 is a fossil fuel subsidy. The Government has made it clear that any investment of this funding in new gas fields is intended to be on commercial terms, and not a subsidy. I have received advice from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, which was informed by advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. This advice was provided to Hon Chris Bishop and me in the briefing "BRIEFING-REQ-0012016 – Budget initiatives for gas security of supply" on 27 March 2025.
