Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Land Information: How much, if any, is the total (finalised) budget in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, for the 2026/27 financial year on artificial intelligence- including costs on training staff, deploying systems, maintaining subscriptions and any other associated costs?

Mike Butterick: Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) has budgeted $1.03 million for the 2026/27 financial year on artificial intelligence including tools, systems, and FTE dedicated to artificial intelligence work. Artificial intelligence usage is also incorporated into business-as-usual activities across the organisation. Costs associated with training, deployment, and ongoing use are funded through existing operational budgets and are not separately identified as artificial intelligence expenditure. Consequently, these costs cannot be included in this response.
