34381 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Why was David Smol reappointed to the NZTA board for a further two years when other members were found not to meet the balance of skills and experience he considered the board required?

Hon Chris Bishop: Good practice requires that the NZTA Board possesses the collective skills knowledge, and experience required to appropriately govern the Agency's functions. I considered that Mr Smol's reappointment was necessary to maintain continuity and support the Board's governance of critical functions - particularly regulation with the Chair of the Regulatory Committee not seeking reappointment.
