34291 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Transport: How, if at all, is AI profiling and/or facial recognition used in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that the Ministry of Transport does not use any AI profiling tools. The Ministry of Transport is in the process of rolling out Windows Hello to all staff (Microsoft's login tool that uses facial recognition technology to securely log users into their Ministry laptops). I am advised that as of July 2025, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi does not use AI profiling or facial recognition technologies.
