34247 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Economic Growth: How, if at all, is AI profiling and/or facial recognition used in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Hon Nicola Willis: I am advised that AI profiling and/or facial recognition is not used in either the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment, or New Zealand Growth Capital Partners. While Immigration NZ (Identity Services) does not use Al to profile applicants or travellers, it does use computerised vision, a subfield of Al, to perform face comparison and sometimes fingerprint comparison to establish applicant and traveller identities.
