34175 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: How, if at all, is AI profiling and/or facial recognition used in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (The Ministry) that no AI profiling is performed by the Ministry. The Ministry uses DIA's Identity Check facial recognition tool to provide clients with an alternate means to verify their identity online. I have been further advised that AI profiling and/or facial recognition is not used in any of the associated Crown entities.
