34146 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Pacific Peoples: How, if at all, is AI profiling and/or facial recognition used in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised by the Ministry for Pacific Peoples (the Ministry), that it does not use AI profiling. Facial recognition is used as a standard security authentication option on Ministry laptops and mobile phones. This feature is not enabled as a default, however, Ministry staff are prompted with the option to set it up during the configuration process if they choose to use it.
