34113 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Justice: How, if at all, is AI profiling and/or facial recognition used in the Minister's departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised that facial recognition is used by the Ministry of Justice for biometric authentication on Windows devices (using Windows Hello) and Apple devices (using FaceID) as an alternative to passwords. We do not employ AI profiling or facial recognition technologies for other purposes. For the Crown Entities that I am responsible Minister, I am advised the answer is nil.
