Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Revenue: What public engagement surveys, if any, have been completed regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, since 27 November 2023?

Hon Simon Watts: Officials advise that Inland Revenue has undertaken the following public engagement surveys, which queried the use of artificial intelligence: June 2026 – Digital Customer Research - This survey included a section on artificial intelligence to understand current use, levels of trust, and concerns from individuals who had interacted with Inland Revenue in the last 12 months. July 2026 – Digital Ambition Open Banking - This survey of sole traders or businesses with less than five employees included a use case whereby artificial intelligence was involved in the calculation of tax and management of cashflow.
