34091 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Justice: What procurement process, if any, was used for purchasing artificial intelligence tools, if any, currently being used within the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised that the Ministry of Justice purchases Copilot licences through the government’s Microsoft Cloud, Software and Services Agreement.
I am advised that the following Crown Entities purchased artificial intelligence tools:
• The Electoral Commission has twice used existing contracts to procure AI tools.
• The Criminal Cases Review Commission has procured a small number of Microsoft CoPilot licenses through its ICT vendor for 1 year.
• The Human Rights Commission has purchased a small number of licences for Microsoft Copilot. As these licences form part of its existing Microsoft technology stack, no separate formal procurement process was undertaken.
