Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: What actions, if any, did the Minister take on what dates following her becoming aware, if at all, of the incident at Korowai Manaaki, if any, whereby young people were lined up on two sides and a young person walked through the two lines while he was hit?

Hon Karen Chhour: Following being verbally informed of an alleged incident on 21 July 2026, on the same day my office asked for a formal briefing from Oranga Tamariki. This briefing was received on 23 July 2026 and provided the assurances necessary that the matter was being appropriately managed by Oranga Tamariki. I conveyed my expectations to officials that they were to continue to keep me informed of developments as necessary and appropriate.
