Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Education: What public engagement surveys, if any, have been completed regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, since 27 November 2023?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education, the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and Education New Zealand that there have not been any public engagement surveys regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have been undertaken since 27 November 2023. I am advised that, as part of the Education Review Office’s (ERO) review of AI recently published in schools in 2026, ERO conducted four surveys that were completed by New Zealand school leaders, teachers, students (in Year 5 and above) and parents and whānau (of children in Year 5 or above).
