34034 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Corrections: What procurement process, if any, was used for purchasing artificial intelligence tools, if any, currently being used within the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that artificial intelligence (AI) tools currently being used or trialled within Corrections have been obtained through existing enterprise licensing or supplier arrangements, additional licences under existing contracts, or controlled trials and proofs of concept offered by existing suppliers. I am further advised that where Corrections has been required to renew licenses or purchase products which include AI tools as a component, their procurement and commissioning processes have adhered to the New Zealand Government Procurement Rules, which require agencies to act transparently, fairly and in a manner that delivers public value.
