33949 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Corrections: How many items of secondary legislation, if any, are administered by the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections is responsible for administering a number of items of secondary legislation which includes legislation: • published on the Parliamentary Counsel Office website • drafted by Corrections, some of which is not required to be published (for example, rules made by prison managers under section 33 of the Corrections Act 2004) • jointly administered with the Ministry of Justice. I am advised that due to the significant number of pieces of secondary legislation administered by Corrections, many of which are specific to individual prisons, collating these would require significant time and resources which I am not prepared to ask of my officials for the purposes of this response. However, I am advised that Corrections is currently working on collating this information as part of their response to the Parliamentary Counsel Office’s annual secondary legislation survey. My officials expect that it will therefore be possible to provide this information later this year.
