33866 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Associate Minister of Education: How much food, if any, has been reported as wasted in the Ka Ora, Ka Ako programme for June 2025?

Hon David Seymour: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that the number of surplus lunches and amount of waste (measured by weight) across the programme has been requested in the end of Term 2 survey. Once closed the findings will be collated and published on the Ka Ora, Ka Ako portal. One of the external model suppliers, the School Lunch Collective (SLC), publishes surplus meal data on their website daily here: https://www.schoollunchcollective.co.nz/. In month of June 2025, the SLC delivered 1,866,481 meals. The Ministry currently holds surplus data for 1 - 13 June 2025. For this period, the SLC delivered 997,003 meals and 7.2 percent of these were collected from schools and returned to commercial production kitchens.
