33655 (2026). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister for Energy: How will the government ensure, if at all, that data centres “bring additionality to our energy system and electricity system”?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that the government is considering whether to set expectations, or new guardrails, to ensure the potential impacts of data centres on the electricity system are appropriately managed. These could include ensuring datacentres support new investment in generation and network infrastructure.
