33510 (2025). Hon Julie Anne Genter to the Minister for Rail: Has he requested advice on reinstating the Southerner rail service, and if not, why not?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: No, as decisions on where and when to run rail tourism services are matters for KiwiRail as an independent commercial operator. This said, of course we have taken a strong interest in the matter as we do for all rail services. KiwiRail has stated to you that demand was high, and feedback was positive form the recent service, and that the company is considering longer-term options.
