33495 (2025). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister for National Security and Intelligence: Was the National Security Group advised that the American Proud Boys could and should be designated as a terrorist group under the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002, if so, on what date?

Rt Hon Christopher Luxon: In my capacity as the Minister for National Security and Intelligence, I am not responsible for the designation of terrorists under The Terrorism Suppression Act 2002 (the Act). In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am advised from officials in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) that a paper was provided by the Terrorist Designation Working Group (TDWG) to the National Security Board for consideration at its meeting on 21 May 2025 addressing the issue of the designation of the Proud Boys under the Act. DPMC is a member of the TDWG.
